Most CPO warranties are comprehensive and include additional services or perks outside the normal maintenance and repair coverage. You can expect coverage on most CPO warranty terms to vary from as short as three months to as long as six or seven years, depending on the brand. What's more, a variety of manufacturers offer additional services, including 24-hour roadside assistance and loaner vehicles when your vehicle is being repaired, as well as trip interruption or travel expense reimbursement should something happen to your vehicle while you're out of town (including hotel, food and transportation reimbursement). These are just some of the characteristics that make CPO warranty packages attractive to consumers. Following are several examples.

Example #1:

• Three years from the date of the pre-owned sale or 100,000 total vehicle miles from original sale date
• Comprehensive coverage; no deductible
• 24-hour-a-day, 365 days-a-year, three-year roadside assistance or 100,000 total vehicle miles

• Two-year/50,000 miles from the date of expiration of the 4-year/50,000 mile new vehicle limited warranty

Example #5:

• Eight-year/80,000 powertrain limited warranty
• Three-month/30,000 Maximum Care Limited Warranty
• 24-hour towing and roadside assistance
• Car rental allowance

Many carmakers offer some type of certified pre-owned program and the warranty coverage available on CPO vehicles varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. The best warranties are labeled comprehensive warranties, and usually, luxury brands tend to offer the longest and best warranties than non-luxury brands. Be sure to research the types of certified pre-owned warranties available during your pre-owned shopping process to determine which certified pre-owned car is right for you.
